Cody Marlowe and his brother in law Austin Coleman have had separate careers writing songs and performing throughout Georgia and the southeast for the last five or six years. Katie Marlowe Coleman, Austin’s wife, has been singing harmony and backing vocals for both artists on albums and during live performances. Guitar wizard and close friend Rob D’Angelo has been the go to guitarist for both Cody and Austin for live performances and studio work during this time period.
During time off these friends would often travel to St. Simons Island on the Georgia Coast to relax and recharge. They became fixtures there, especially at their favorite dive bar, Murphy’s Tavern. These experiences led them to form a band together and begin writing songs with a little different twist to them from their original solo tunes. They decided to name their band “The Murphs” in honor of their favorite haunt on the island.
The band wrote several original tunes and went into The Vault Recording Lounge in Marietta, Georgia at the end of 2018 to begin recording. They plan to finish the project during the next few months and release their first full length album later in 2019. The songs are a mix of genres...old time rock and roll, country, blues and roots with added harmonies. A couple of the tunes, “Middle Georgia Blues” and “My Way Back Home” have made their way into their setlist already and are becoming fan favorites.
“The Murphs” are beginning to book shows and possibly do a southeastern tour during the summer of 2019. Look for the new album and check social media regularly for updates on shows and the new record.
